About Atelier MVDR

I am Martijn van de Rijdt, and Atelier MVDR is my studio for hand-crafted contemporary furniture.

My design philosophy is rooted in my architecture-focused engineering background and studies at the Arnhem Arts Academy in the nineties. After a career spanning humanitarian aid and web development, I returned to my primary passion — design & woodworking — in 2020.

Following 26 years abroad, I returned to the Netherlands to establish my workshop in the historic C-mill in Heerlen. Operating out of a former Philips factory, I find inspiration in the intersection of industrial history and modern craft.

My Approach

I create pieces that balance functional precision with unique character. I lean toward traditional hand-tool techniques, not just for the superior finish, but for the intentional, quiet focus they bring to the workshop.

I look for projects and collaborations that offer a creative spark. If my aesthetic resonates with you, I invite you to reach out. Depending on the type of project we could either agree on a standard commission or on a no-obligation-to-buy arrangement with right of first refusal on the finished work.
